Couquinho, the word that literary means “a very faraway place”, gives the name to the wine that is produced on the estate.
Quinta do Couquinho spans across 70 hectares, and is located in Horta da Vilariça, land which is integrated in the oldest wine region in the world – Douro. Approximately 60 hectares are cultivated and this is where we may find the vineyards and olive groves, as well as a small orchard of almond, orange, clementine, fig and apple trees that complete the landscape. Surrounded by natural beauty, Quinta do Couquinho is a very special place where tradition and respect for the land reign.
The Quinta’s vast vineyard is set in undulating land where the vines are cultivated in terraces known as “socalcos”. The main traditional Douro grapes, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Barroca, Sousão and Tinto Cão are all grown at Couquinho and the wines that are produced there reflect this unique terroir.
